Sheryl’s BreastFest, Inc. is honored to announce our 2025 Polk County Music Festival & Cancer Benefit Recipient, Kevin Davis.
At 60 years old, Kevin is facing the toughest battle of his life—an aggressive fight against Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). His journey began in April when he was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a condition where his bone marrow failed to produce enough healthy blood cells. Despite enduring intense chemotherapy, total body irradiation, and a bone marrow transplant (BMT) that initially showed promise, Kevin’s battle took an unexpected turn. His MDS progressed into AML, a far more aggressive leukemia, forcing him to restart chemotherapy and prepare for yet another uphill fight.
Kevin is no stranger to adversity, but this battle has tested him in unimaginable ways. Despite everything, he continues to fight with unwavering determination.
The Challenges Kevin Faces
Kevin’s treatment has been grueling. He has endured:
A month-long hospitalization during his initial transplant recovery
The financial burden of living within 10 minutes of Moffitt Cancer Center post-discharge, covering lodging and transportation out of pocket
Frequent travel (2-3 times per week) to Tampa for biopsies, bloodwork, and treatments
Graft-versus-Host Disease (GVHD), a severe complication where his new donor cells attack his own body
GVHD has added another level of difficulty to Kevin’s recovery. The life-saving medications required to prevent his body from rejecting the transplant cost between $12,000 and $21,000 per month. These costs are not optional—they are essential for his survival. Despite the immense challenges, Kevin’s doctors remain hopeful that if his donor agrees, a second bone marrow transplant could give him another chance at remission.
A Life Dedicated to Helping Others
Kevin’s life has always been about giving, never asking for anything in return. He has been married to his wife, Bev, for 33 years, and she has taken significant time off work to care for him. Their son and daughter have also stepped away from their own jobs and families to help in any way they can. Kevin is the world to his 4-year-old granddaughter, and his new 1-month-old grandson is just beginning to know his incredible grandfather.
Beyond his family, Kevin has dedicated decades to community service, mentoring young athletes and supporting those in need:
Football Coach (20 years): Shaping young men into disciplined student-athletes, often ensuring underprivileged players had transportation to games and practices.
Service Organizations:
25 years with the Elks Lodge
20 years with the Lions Club
25 years as a Mason
2 years with the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP)
Feeding the Homeless: Every Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve at Lighthouse Ministries
Disaster Relief Efforts: Traveling across Florida to feed hurricane victims
Rotary Club & School Fundraisers: Raising funds to support education
Mission Trips: Building churches and kitchens in Central America and the Caribbean
Kevin’s generosity has touched countless lives. Now, it’s our turn to stand by him.
How You Can Help
Kevin’s fight is far from over. While his medical team remains optimistic about the possibility of remission, the financial burden is staggering. His family has spent thousands out of pocket on medical treatments, lodging, travel, and medication, all while managing their own responsibilities.
